Puerto Vallarta, one of Mexico’s beautys and a wonderful place to visit. As a resident in this beautiful city, I want to lend a hand by sharing some info with you. So before going this vacation, here are a few things you need to consider.
1. The weather
Before planning the perfect vacation, you might consider the dates. July – October is rainy season. During these months, there will be a lot of cloudy days, which means 100% humidity (don’t forget the mosquito repellant) and some days will even include a spectacular lightnening show. Although it might sound like a storm, the pro of having this type of weather means it’s perfect for waterfall excursions. December through March are the perfect months to visit since the weather is not as humid and you can relax under the sun while the nice cool breeze brushes through your hair.
2. Whale Season
If you are a true animal lover, consider planning your vacation between the months of december and march. That’s right! It’s mating season and you’re in for a treat. The famous humpback whale swims all the way to the banderas bay in persuance of their significant other, singing their melodic tunes. And if you’re lucky enough you will see the male whales jump out of the water alongside the female whales whom they have mated with. If you are up for the adventure there are boat tours available that will give you an up close experience. But stay on the look out because you might even come across a random sighting while going to the beach.
3. Don’t trust taxi drivers
I’m not trying to throw shade but I’ve had several people tell me that when they came to visit the first thing they wanted to do was go out to eat, and let me tell you… it’s really a 50/50 chance you are going to like what they recommend. Also, most of time taxi drivers will take you to places where they get comission. I don’t want you guys to have a bad experience so my best recomendation is to ask your hotel’s concierge. They are trained experts of the city and they will be happy to help you, as well as any questions you might have.
4. Taking the bus?
Want to discover the city yourself but afraid you’ll get lost? The bus is an excellent choice if you’re seeking an adventure. For only the price of $10.00 pesos you can go where ever you’d like. However you must read carefully the places they stop at indicated infront of the bus. For example, if you want to go to the “Malecon” or boardwalk, take a bus that says CENTRO. This bus will also take you to “Olas Altas” where the romantic zone is located. Another example, if you want to go to the crystal clear beaches, first you take a bus that says TUNEL and ask the bus driver to leave you at Calle Constitucion and take the bus that says BOCA DE TOMATLAN / MISMALOYA. This last bus can take you to “Conchas Chinas, Playa las Gemelas, Mirador Los Arcos, Mismaloya, Boca de Tomatlan, etc.”
5. Art Walk
If you have a passion for art or you really admire other people’s work, I have news for you. October through March you will find the famous “Art walk” in old downtown Puerto Vallarta where a lot of locals will have their work on display. Nevertheless, there are tons of other art galleries in downtown Puerto Vallarta.
I hope you found this information helpful!
